A Geek Out Moment: Heads Up Display App for Dungeons & Dragons Enhances the Fun

Dungeons & Dragons is a lot of fun, partially because there is so much flexibility... but that also makes it overwhelming, especially for first time players.

With the increase in D&D being played online, players and Dungeon Masters need a way to improve communication during character creation and during actual play.

Dungeon Masters need a way to share artwork, environments, and non-player stats...

...so whose turn is it?

The Problem

Dungeons and Dragons is a very versatile game, but with versitility comes complexity.  Based on competitive analysis, user interviews, and other user research methods, we found that most new players and dungeon masters are intimidated by the overwhelming amount of information available.

The Solution

Enter "A Beginner's Guide to Adventuring," a digital reference guide, character creator, and dungeon master player management system utilizing a heads up display (HUD) style navigation to manage a complex user interface with a lot of deep information.

BONUS: We included a chatbot that could answer questions in natural language and provide directions when players (and dungeon masters) need a little extra help.

The Impact

Our character creator cuts down the build process significantly.
